Masculine Scents: List of Essential Oils and Their Qualities

When it comes to essential oils, some have more feminine qualities, and some have masculine qualities. This article will give you a list of ten essential oils with masculine qualities so that you can make an informed decision about which one is best for your needs!

Quality of Masculine and Feminine Scents

Aromatic preferences are subjective, not just restricted to being a “Male” or “Female” scent. A man does not need only to use earthy and dense smells, while women should not only use floral aroma. Many men do prefer masculine scents, but they aren’t limited to it. A man can like floral aromas as much as a woman likes a musty pine scent.

Your biological gender is not the only thing that defines your personal taste.

That being said, if we were to look at essential oils as an expression of masculine and feminine qualities/energy, we could make a scale for different types of scents and place them accordingly.

I created an online poll of my HeroRise Instagram followers and an aromatherapy Facebook group to make a list of quality that makes a scent masculine or feminine.

I also collected a list of essential oils that accentuate these masculine qualities.

List of Masculine Essential Oils

1. Allspice

Allspice’s spicy scent invokes masculine qualities. Allspice is known to correspond with the planetary influence of Mars, which is a traditional symbol of masculine strength.

2. Black Pepper

Black Pepper Oil is a warming oil that increases circulation. And is known for increasing sexual desire. The musky and dense smell of Black Pepper makes it perfect as a masculine scent. It is excellent to mix in a light amount with other oils.

3. Cedarwood

The woody scent of cedarwood essential oil is grounding and masculine. It has been used traditionally for many years as a way to reduce anxiety while promoting peacefulness.

4. Cinnamon

Cinnamon’s spicy scent invokes feelings of warmth and comfort, which can be grounding and promote a sense of balance that is often associated with masculine energy.

5. Cumin

Cumin essential oil is an excellent choice for those with a strong need to assert themselves or become more grounded.

It has earthy and energizing scents that can help balance out someone who may be feeling too sensitive, emotional, or anxious at the moment. It promotes mental clarity while also helping relieve pain in joints such as arthritis. For this reason, it can be used as part of a daily routine.

6. Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus oil has been traditionally used in ritual circles to invoke protective energy, clear negative emotions, or promote feelings of strength and confidence.

7. Ginger

Commonly, this oil is used in diffusers to help with circulation and enhance masculine energy. It can also be applied topically as well or placed in a bath for mood elevation – giving you confidence, commitment, and a sense of purpose.

8. Patchouli

Patchouli oil is associated with masculinity, virility, and vitality. Its dense and musky scent lasts a long time and is good in a blend (not so good purely by its self).

9. Sandalwood

Sandalwood essential oil is a natural aphrodisiac that can also help increase libido, balance hormones, and relax the mind. Its natural and full scent gives it a masculine presence.

Scientific studies have found that women are subconsciously drawn to sandalwood, which smells similar to male testosterone.

10. Vetiver

Vetiver’s rich woody scent invokes masculine qualities. It can help you to reconnect with your body, relieve stress and tension in the muscles, or promote feelings of strength and confidence.

Why Use Masculine Essential Oils

Naturally, men have different body odors from women. Women tend to smell sweeter with notes of vanilla and honey, while men have more a masculine odor, augmented by earthy base notes.

Perfume, or any other scent you wear, will react differently depending on your natural body odor.

If you are thinking of using an essential oil, it’s helpful to accent your natural base. If you add a light floral smell to your darker body order, it will not make as pleasant of a bouquet.

When you are thinking of wearing an essential oil, think of your natural scent first. Some men have a sweeter scent, and other women can naturally smell more masculine.

Think of adding oils that will support and enhance your natural smell.

Essential Oil Blends and DIY Cologne

Essential Oils work great on their own, but a proper mix can make them even more alluring. After mixing essential oils for a decade, here are my two favorite recipes that have a strong masculine quality.

Liquid Courage Cologne: This is a confident, sexy scent that will have you feeling invincible. It has spicy notes from the cardamom and nutmeg essential oils, with bergamot opening it up to be fresh and welcoming. Patchouli rounds out this blend as an earthy counter-balance to all of those top notes.

  • 10 drops bergamot essential oil
  • 3 drops cardamom essential oil
  • 5 drops sandalwood essential oil
  • 3 drops Patchouli essential oil

Misty Woods: This is a spicy and woodsy blend. It also contains sandalwood essential oil that offers warmth to the scent. Vanilla provides floral top notes, so it’s not just masculine but a balanced blend.

  • 5 drops sandalwood essential oil
  • 1 drops vanilla essential oil
  • 3 drops nutmeg essential oil
  • 1 drop vetiver essential oil
  • 5 drops Rosewood essential oil

In these blends, you will notice that they aren’t just masculine fragrances. The reason why is it’s good to balance out dark and musky scents with a high note. It gives it more life and vitality.

This could perhaps be a metaphor for the complexity of masculinity and femininity and how they blend together.

In Conclusion:

Essential Oils can be used to accentuate your natural smell and radiate your masculinity. The scents send out subtle signals to the world around you. I also like to use essential oils when meditating on my masculinity or when I want to boost my masculine confidence.

As a result of this post, you now know the best masculine essential oils to use. I hope that my words have helped you find your inner-masculine confidence and strength.
