Being confident in your Masculinity feels amazing. If you feel like you aren’t standing out as a man or want to increase your connection to Masculinity, you can use a few techniques to improve your Masculine look.

In this article, I will be sharing 7 strategies you can use to look more masculine.

This won’t be a bunch of lofty ideas. I will give you concrete and tangible ways to connect to the deepest parts of your identity and radiate confident Masculinity.

How to look more masculine?

Looking Masculine is equally about connecting to your self-confidence as a man, as well as the stylistic expectations of your culture. To look more masculine, you should look at what attributes of Masculinity you like and adopt them in your fashion, speech, and actions.

The Masculine look isn’t set in stone, and how men dressed in the 1800s is very different from today.

If you want to be perceived as more masculine, you need to look at the current fashion trends.

It’s important to remember that we all have masculine and feminine traits, and it’s not so much two distinct boxes, but a scale.

The journey is about finding out which aspects of masculine culture you enjoy and accentuating them. Take what you like, leave what you don’t.

Your “look” really comes from the unique expression of your personality. You can’t just put on someone else’s clothing and expect to feel 100% at home, and it takes exploration and confidence in your uniqueness.

In the rest of this article, I will be sharing tips and techniques you can use to accentuate your Masculinity while still keeping your individual expression.

What is a Masculine Look?

Masculinity changes over time and is different from culture to culture. There are, however, some similarities we see across the world, and its opposition to Femininity also defines Masculinity. They are polar opposites, and you will land somewhere on the scale between them.

Here is a list of attributes that can be seen in Masculine and Feminine fashion:

Masculine LookFeminine Look
Bold, dark, and neutral colorsLight, colorful, and textured colors
Rugged materials (leather, flannel, jeans)Soft and silky materials
Loose-fittingTight-fitting
Simple and bold linesSoft curves and subtle patterns
Outward confidenceInward and emotional

These attributes are by no means the only way men and women express themselves. Everyone is unique and can pick and choose whichever look they like.

Men that can rock wearing pink and flamboyant outfits can be seen as so confident in their Masculinity that they feel great in it. That shows deep confidence, and at the end of the day, that is the most masculine thing there is.

Body Language: The Art of Confidence

If you want to come off as a confident man, it is all about body language.

Body language shows that you are comfortable with who you are, how you interact with others, and how you see yourself.

It doesn’t matter if you have the fanciest clothes or the nicest car, and what matters is if you are comfortable with being yourself.

You can instantly see if someone has that confidence through body language.

Here are a few things you can do to radiate confidence:

  • Making eye contact
  • Talk with your hands (ideally hands up and open)
  • Keep hands visible and out of your pockets
  • Lean forward towards whoever you are talking to
  • Don’t fidget
  • Slow your movements and take your time

The other items on this list help you find that inner confidence that radiates through your body language.

Your clothing is to help you feel at home in yourself. Your voice, posture, and everything else helps support the message of confidence in your body.

Posture

Studies have shown that body posture is directly ties to self-confidence and how people perceive others’ Masculinity.

A paper by out of the University of Madrid and Ohio State found a direct correlation between how good someone’s posture was and what they thought of themselves.

The thing is… this is also a two-way street.

If you work on having a better posture, that sends signals to your brain that give you more confidence.

It can take some time to fix your posture, but it will make your body feel better, make you feel more confident, and give you a strong masculine look.

Clothing and Fashion

Clothing and fashion play a big role in how other people see you.

It’s important that you aren’t putting on the newest clothes coming out at the mall, it’s more about finding clothing that expresses your personality.

There are so many different flavors to Masculinity. Here are some examples:

  • Sporty look
  • Suits and formal
  • The casual and rugged look

There are some fashion tips you can use to accentuate your Masculinity.

Wearing jeans, natural colors, and simple, bold colors are great examples of Masculine Fashion.

The best way to find out what fashion speaks to you the most is to notice other people out in the world. Take note if you like wide-brimmed hats, leather boots, dark colors, or anything else you think shows off your masculine personality.

Physical Appearance

Your physical Apperience goes hand in hand with your posture.

I am not going to say you should get in the gym and become a big muscle mass. If that makes you feel great, go for it.

But, it’s helpful to know that how healthy your body affects how people preserve your Masculinity

This doesn’t mean you have to be “swoll,” as they say.

There are a lot of youtube videos where people ask women on the street which body type they prefer.

I found the video by Cassady Campbell really interesting, and to my surprise, the winner was Picture DAnd some women really preferred E and F, and the second most popular was C.

In researching this article, I also came across this amazing art project where different artists created renditions of what is considered the ideal body in their country.

It shows how wide of a range there is.

Pint being… you don’t have to be an athlete to be seen as attractive and more masculine. As long as you take care of your body, you will be seen as more attractive.

Voice

Your voice is significant in how others perceive you.

Most people think that their voice is just their voice, but they have a lot more control over how their voice sounds than they think.

Everyone has a wide range to there vocal cords, and as they grew up they developed a sound that seems to fit them.

This could be affected by where someone grows up, their parents, social ques, etc.

As an adult, you can consciously change your voice to fit the situation best. Learning to hear the different tones and emulate them can make you a better speaker.

study by the University of Western Australia found “women judged lower-pitched voices as more masculine and more attractive.”

If you want to be perceived as more masculine, then working on the pitch and tone of your voice can go a long way.

Here are some tips on making your voice sound more masculine:

  • Engage the diaphragm
  • Practice changing pitch
  • Speak slowly
  • Keep a monotone voice

There is no hard rule that your voice has to have all these characters. But playing with your voice and seeing using some of these techniques can help you feel more confident as a man.

I really like this video on making your voice more masculine:

Grooming

Masculinity is about clarity, precision, and patients.

Having a messy beard, unkempt hair, or bad hygiene does not accentuate these masculine qualities.

Good grooming habits are essential for how people perceive you. When you think of a strong masculine leader, you most likely see someone well dressed, clean, and sharp. That is exactly what you want to emulate.

Many men get the basics of grooming, showering, and brushing their teeth, but many men miss the subtle things that lead to a sharper look.

Here are a few things to look at in your grooming routine to help you radiate Masculinity.

  • Clean and short nails
  • Tailer Clothing
  • Clean pores and good skin
  • Trimmed beard
  • Wearing masculine essential oils

There is a lot to talk about with grooming, so I will keep it short for the sake of this article.

The key is to tend to how you look actively. Get regular hair cuts, clean your nails, wash your face. These are things men sometimes see as “feminine,” but in reality, keeping one’s body in pristine shape is very masculine and attractive.

Good mental health

Someone with a solid masculine air about them is calm and solid.

Being anxious or depressed can diminish your sense of Masculinity.

If you are going through mental health issues, depression, anxiety, or anger… it’s ok. We all deal with these things. But a truly confident man can openly talk about it and works to better himself.

It’s not about being perfect; it’s about moving towards the secure part within you.

Finding a good therapist can go a long way in your personal development and finding confidence in your Masculinity.

Try to set aside time to be reflective, work on yourself, journal, and reflect with your closest friends. This will help you maintain a healthy mental state.

Here are a few things you can do to improve your mental health:

  • Regular exercise
  • Working with a therapist
  • Joining a men’s group
  • Contemplation + reflection (Like using the Masculine Archetype Deck)
  • Staying connected with your friends and family
  • Reading books about self-improvement

In Conclusion:

Having a strong Masculine look is more than just the clothes you wear. Masculinity is about confidence in one’s self and role in the world.
